Music Ministries
At Grace Baptist Church you will find many opportunities to
serve God and others through music. These include: Congregational
Singing, supported by our Service Musicians,
the Grace Choir, the Youth
Choir, Vocal Ensemble and Music
for Children.
Article
II of our church’s constitution reads:
The purpose of this church is to glorify the God of the
Scriptures in promoting His worship, evangelizing sinners,
and edifying saints. To this end we are committed to proclaiming
God’s perfect law and His glorious Gospel of Grace
in Jesus Christ throughout the world, and to defending the
“faith once delivered unto the saints” (Jude
3).
It is our goal in all of our endeavors in music to serve
the church in accomplishing its purpose. To this end:
- We promote the worship and adoration of God through music
in praise, thanksgiving, and prayer.
- We corporately proclaim, confess, and celebrate our faith
as one voice united together in Christ Jesus.
- We seek to exhort, admonish, encourage, and stir up one
another to good works, as we speak to one another in psalms,
hymns, and spiritual songs.
Congregational Singing
The congregation is the first and primary “choir”
at Grace Baptist Church. Every member is a gift of God and
contributes to our church’s voice in worship. It is
the aim of all our additional music ministries (Grace Choir,
Youth Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Service Musicians, and Children’s
Music) to serve and support this foundational ministry of
the music.
Service Musicians
The Service Musicians are our instrumentalists who accompany
the singing in our worship each Lord’s Day. We meet
on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM (before Prayer Meeting) to
pray and rehearse together. At present our group includes
piano, keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, flute and trumpet. We
are continuing to look for instrumentalists in the church
who are willing to use and develop their abilities to join
with us.
Grace Choir
The Grace Choir is a four-part (SATB) choir open to all members
and faithful attenders of the church (7th grade to adult).
We meet 3 or 4 times each month for rehearsal on Sunday evening
from 7:15 to 8:15 PM in the choir loft. Specific dates and
times for practice are announced each week in the bulletin.
The Choir serves our church by:
- Learning new and unfamiliar hymns and teaching them to
the rest of the congregation.
- Learning to read and sing voice parts for hymns and appropriate
anthems in order to provide special music for worship services.
Youth Choir
Our Youth Choir (age 12 through 12th grade) meets on Sunday
evenings from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. before the Evening Service.
Specific dates and times for practice are announced in the
bulletin.
Vocal Ensemble
Formed in the Spring of 2004, our Vocal Ensemble is our newest
music ministry. This group serves to provide additional music
for our worship services and to introduce the congregation
to newer music that is sound and with substance. We meet for
rehearsal on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 6:30 PM before
Prayer Meeting.
Children's Music
We offer musical instruction for our children (ages 4 to
11) each Sunday evening from 5:00 to 5:40 PM prior to the
evening service.
GBC Jam
At least once a year we host a fellowship for church musicians
(instrumentalists and vocalists) to encourage the development
of musical gifts in the congregation. All who can bring and
play an instrument, or come with their voice ready to sing
are invited to come and participate in making music to the
Lord. |
